Idea box

What’s your idea for Sheboygan?

A real photo of an open green lawn beside the Sheboygan River, with a blue railing along the water and a white lamppost. No people in the photo.
A real photo of an open lawn by the Sheboygan River. No people in it. Photo credit: TBD, Mike to confirm.

You first. Citizens first, and ideas radiate out from there. Mike to confirm #1

Big ideas, small ideas, weird ideas. Weird ideas get bonus points.

Draft mockup. Nothing on this page works yet.

Review box for Mike

Inert until Mike approves a real channel and a privacy/records note

Everything below the review box is a picture of an idea box and a draft spec. No form is wired up, no address or number is shown, nothing is sent, and nothing is collected or stored.

What exists now. What’s an idea.

Exists today

  • There is no working idea box yet.
  • This page collects nothing from anyone.

An idea, not a plan

  • A box where residents can share an idea about Sheboygan, with residents’ ideas shown first.
  • The research brief sketches the design as paper at the library plus an online form, with every idea logged publicly. That is a design, not a record. Mike to confirm #2

Need a spark? Try a question.

Questions only. There are no wrong answers, and nothing here assumes one.

  • What is one thing you wish you could do in Sheboygan in January?
  • Where do you wish you had a bench, a light or a warm place to wait?
  • What would make getting around easier for you, with a car or without one?
  • What do you love so much about this place that it should never change?
  • Which spot do you pass and think, this could be something?
  • What would you love to play on again?
  • What should we ask your neighbors?

The idea box, as a picture

Mockup. Not connected. This does not work.

These are pictures of fields, drawn with plain shapes and text. You cannot type in them, and there is no send button.

DRAFT SPEC for Mike

How the idea box could work

Nothing in this section is decided. It is a draft for Mike to edit, approve or throw away. It is a design, not a record of anything that exists.

1. Fields

  • Your idea (required, short text).
  • Where in Sheboygan (optional, a place, never a private home).
  • How to get back to you (optional; the channel is TBD and nothing is collected until Mike approves one).
  • Okay to share the idea publicly, with no name (optional, off by default).

2. Who reads submissions

TBD, Mike to confirm. Unresolved. Mike to confirm #4

Should Mike read every idea himself, or should a small group of neighbors read them with him?

3. How ideas are posted publicly, with consent

  • An idea goes on the public list only if the sender says yes. Mike to confirm #3
  • A posted idea shows the idea and the place. It never shows a name, an address or contact details.
  • Each posted idea gets a short note: what Mike did with it, or that it is still open. Nothing goes public without Mike’s go.
  • Report-back: a posted summary and the next date, within a set time.

4. Moderation rules Mike to confirm #5

  • No names of private people.
  • No accusations, and nothing secondhand.
  • Posts are checked for decency first: no nudity, no harassment, no accusations about named people.
  • Ideas are about places and things, not about people. Positive, no blame.
  • Ideas that break a rule are not posted. The sender is told which rule, in plain words.

5. How long ideas are kept

TBD, Mike to confirm. Unresolved. A privacy/records note has to exist first. Mike to confirm #4

Which records rules apply to ideas sent to a resident-led box, and who do we ask?

6. The channel

TBD, Mike to confirm. No address, number or form exists yet. Mike to confirm #4

Paper at the library, an online form, or both?

Ideas I’d love your help with

These are mine, so they come second. Every one has its own page, and every one is a proposal.

This is a proposal. It is an idea for Sheboygan, not a city plan or a decision.

Master map of Sheboygan on a real aerial photo base, with proposal layers: four schematic bus lines, three hubs, a swing trail and 18 numbered sites. Labeled concept, proposal.
Concept map on a real satellite base. The pins, routes and hubs are a proposal.

How I want to do all of it: An open city. Every word on the record. Positive. No blame.

Mike to confirm (remove before publishing)
  1. Mike to confirm #1. Is “Citizens first, and ideas radiate out from there” the right way to say it? It comes from the crew brief (Oct 4, 2026).
  2. Mike to confirm #2. The research brief sketches the intake as paper at the library plus an online form, with every idea logged publicly. Do you want that design, or something else?
  3. Mike to confirm #3. The brief says every idea is logged publicly. This draft spec adds a consent step (an idea is posted only if the sender says yes) and posts no names. Keep that change?
  4. Mike to confirm #4. Who reads submissions, how long ideas are kept, and the real channel are all TBD. The box stays inert until you approve a channel and a privacy/records note.
  5. Mike to confirm #5. The moderation rules (decency first: no nudity, no harassment, no accusations about named people; also no private names) come from Mike’s locked decency rule (2026-10-05). Anything to add?
  6. Mike to confirm #6. Tone check: is this the right kind of goofy and warm? The three jokes assert no fact.
  7. Mike to confirm #7. The “photo from Mike’s own camera” slots stay empty. The three swing photos on file are held for Mike to choose (shows a person). Pick one, or send another.
  8. Mike to confirm #8. Hero photo: a real riverfront lawn photo with no people. The photographer credit is not recorded in the files I have. Who should it be credited to?
