The Basin
The best small water on the Great Lakes, open to everyone all year.
This is a proposal. It is an idea for Sheboygan, not a city plan or a decision.
The dream
Make the old marina basin a small, lovely harbor that residents use every day of the year, not just a boat lot. The breakwater already calms the water, so the dream builds on what the harbor already gives.
- A modest field of guest moorings, with boats staying small.
- A kayak and paddle launch with a warm-up deck.
- A swim lagoon.
- Floating saunas in summer.
- An ice loop in winter.
- The admin and event buildings become a public hall that is warm and open all winter, with a coffee window.

The breakwater already calms the basin, so floating decks should survive normal waves. Bubblers and seasonal dock pulls handle ice. A swim lagoon needs a screened intake and tested, treated water. None of this has been studied yet.
What the walker gets
Water to touch at the start of the Broughton walk, a warm room open all winter, and a coffee window. It is also a hub where the Free Line, shared bikes and a kayak launch meet. See the Free Line and public amenities.
