Why We Can't Live Without It

Living here shouldn't mean owning a car just to reach the world.
We believe Sheboygan can't afford to stay where it is.
- Our people are aging. Seniors who stop driving shouldn't stop living. A network that reaches doctors, groceries, parks and friends every day keeps people healthy and independent longer.
- Our workers need to get to work. Employers across the region need people on every shift, and a worker without a car shouldn't be a worker without a job.
- Our young people are choosing. Many would rather not carry a car payment. Cities that make car-free living easy are the ones they move to and stay in.
- Our households are stretched. Giving up a new car can free more than a year's rent.
- Our winters are long. A warm Hub and a professional driver beat scraping ice at 6 a.m.
- Our region is connected. With jobs flowing in and out every day, a city without links is an island.
Without this, every new resident, job and visitor arrives through the same car-only door. With it, Sheboygan becomes a city where you can live, work, age and play without one, and where choosing to own a car is just that: a choice.
