6. Heated Longevity Hubs
Photo slot (heated Hub interior with an arrival screen)
What we chose: heated, enclosed Longevity Hubs (the NORTH Longevity Hub at Geele and N 15th, the CENTRAL Longevity Hub at N 14th and Erie by Lakeshore Technical College, the SOUTH Longevity Hub at Taylor and WI 28, and the West Gateway Longevity Hub at WI-28 / Taylor Dr by I-43), plus smaller heated stations at key stops.
What else we considered:
- Standard open shelters.
- A single large downtown transit center.
Why: Sheboygan is a winter city. Waiting outside in January is the biggest reason people give up on the bus. Each Hub has a warm waiting room open during all service hours, restrooms, live arrival screens, Wi-Fi and phone charging, e-bike docks and a van pickup point. Each one can also serve as a warming station during cold alerts.
We spread the Hubs out instead of building one big center. Each sits where lines cross and where people already live, work and shop, so transfers happen close to home. Over time, a Hub can grow into a third place, with a café, a telehealth room or a library locker.
Winter is the reason people give up on the bus. So we heated the wait.
