Sheboygan as a Service: The Full Archive

The long reference behind the pitch. Checked Nov 2, 2026. Est. means estimate; proj. means projection.

Origin story

This plan started as posts on XSheboygan, thinking out loud about the city's future.

Dec 22, 2025: Digital Utility Hub Two futures for Sheboygan in 10 and 20 years: a digital utility hub or an industrial maker hub.
Dec 31, 2025: Sheboygan as a service Nobody has more say in our future than anybody else.
Feb 20, 2026: I want city level The ask: bring this down to the city itself.
Mar 24, 2026: Data centers are the electrical plants of the day Compute is a utility, and a city can own a piece of it.

The idea

Layer by layer

1. Intake meetings portal, code, state law, GTFS, video, departments
2. Processing OCR + live transcripts on 2 NVIDIA workstations
3. Memory 100 TB storage, mirrored, plus offline backup
4. Knowledge graph + search links parcels, projects, budgets, votes, routes, roles
5. Reasoning 4 Mac Studios over Thunderbolt 5
6. Access + audit sign-in, roles, write-once log
7. Front doors 15 iPads, 8 kiosks, web, voice
Security, honestly. Owning it does not make it safe. It needs monthly patches, its own network segment, read-only public copies, multi-factor sign-in, quarterly test restores of offline backups, and a named person responsible.

Open decisions

  1. Mac count: 4 for the full version, 2 for a pilot.
  2. Kiosk sites: City Hall, Mead Library, transit center, senior center, others?
  3. Does the council tier include non-public records?
  4. Name Microsoft 365, or say a cloud vendor?
  5. Pilot or full ask?
  6. Meeting video source.
  7. Keep the personal closing?
  8. The 8-minute budget speech is for a future meeting; tonight's slot is 3 minutes.
  9. End the City Administrator position, or call for a study?
  10. Where to publish once approved.
