District 7: An Open City

Mike Brunette, Ward 13, District 7, Sheboygan

Council vote: Monday, Nov 2, 6 PM, City Hall

Back around 2018, I said I was walking away from City Hall. I didn't. I kept reading the packets, following the money, and speaking in public forum. I did that homework without a title. I'm asking for the chance to do it with a vote.

The problem

Too much of this city's business is hard to follow. Big decisions get made behind closed doors and show up later as done deals. When people can't follow it, they stop trusting it.

1. Decisions in daylight

A live transcript of every council meeting. Every word, searchable, posted the same night, so anyone on a phone can read what was said and how each vote went.

2. An open lakefront

A marina behind a gate is not an open city. Wisconsin Avenue should lead people straight to the water: 600 steps from downtown to the lake, and a marina open to everyone.

3. Residents first

Fare-free buses from 5 AM to 12:30 AM, so people can get to work, the doctor and the store without a car. See the Happy Mobile Life plan.

A budget that starts with the people who pay for it. Open the budget map.

A standing District 7 group

Seven of us applied for this seat. That says a lot about this district. We put real work into this, and most of us don't know each other yet. Whoever wins on Monday, I'm inviting all seven candidates to form a standing District 7 group that meets regularly with residents to talk about our district and keep pushing it forward together.

My pledge: Win or lose on Monday, I pledge to join a standing District 7 group with every candidate and the residents we want to serve. I'm asking each of the other six to make that pledge with me.

How you can help

Tell your alder before Monday, or come to City Hall at 6 PM on November 2. I'll show up, I'll read the material, and I'll answer to the people of District 7.
